IIT Admission in India

The Indian Institute of Technology - IIT is the India's premier institutions in the field of Technological education. IITs are central government owned public technical higher education institutes located across India. Ministry of Education, Government of India has declared IITs as Institutes of National Importance. Currently there are 23 IITs in India. Following the concept of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the first Indian Institute of Technology - IIT was founded in May 1950 at the site of the Hijli Detention Camp in Kharagpur, West Bengal currently known as IIT Kharagpur.

IIT Admission
To get undergraduate admission in one of the IITs, an applicant must appear and qualify the JEE Main entrance examination. JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) Main examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency in the month of January and April every year. Successful candidates in JEE Main will have to appear for JEE Advanced exam to secure a seat at IIT. 

For undergraduate admission at IITs, international students may directly appear JEE Advanced Online Test. International students who have Indian 12th grade or equivalent qualification are exempted from JEE Main exam. For detail information please refer to JEE website. 

Postgraduate Admission at IIT 
Most of the IITs encourage international students admission in M Tech, M Des, MSc and PhD programs. Applicant may apply through ICCR Scholarship Portal, Study in India website or directly upon fulfillment of admission eligibility. However, IIT and IISc follow its own selection criteria before accepting a student for UG, PG and PhD Programs. 

Before submission of application to IITs or IISc, International students should appear one of the Entrance Tests listed below. 

JEE (Advanced Joint Entrance Examination) for the B.Tech programs
GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) for M.Tech and PhD programs
CEED (Common Entrance Exam for Design) for M. Des and PhD programs
UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam in Design) for B.Des programs
JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.)
